next steps, climbing wall la linea

so last night i figured out what the logical next step in my career path is. staff developer. i love coming up with cool lesson plans and tutoring, but not necessarily all the teaching stuff. still a few years off but i think it makes sense.

we have a bouldering wall at my school now and i got 'trained' on it today. although not so much on safety ways. i want to climb all the time and bring peeps even thought that's so not allowed and i'd get caught cause the principal's window overlooks it.

go to you tube and look up la linea vidoes. they are around 2.5 minutes in length and hilarious.

california dreamin'

so i'm headed to la with marathon for rosh hashanna. i'm a bit sad to not be doing my thing in the burgh. but that's part of relationships...

this freelance project is never ending, but mainly b/c i go for days with out working on it. deadline is night though

may be my new favorite thing to do and my new favorite place.

took the ikea shuttle from pier 11 today as the sun was begining to go down. the view was magnificcant. everything looked great in the light. and the view of brooklyn heights from manhattan is just incredible.
i sat in the park for a while doing some work and looking at the reflections of the sunset until it got to cold for me and i headed into ikea. a little guilty for not buying anything and taking the shuttle and a little in need of a small brush. i was amazed that most people did seem to be ikea bound or had bought stuff at ikea.
love the reflection of fading sunlight on buildings and water and railings. such sweetness.

ikea. bleh as always but cheap (and i think the plastic broom and toilet brush will prove their cheapness) wish i hadn't been so chilly so i could have gone and enjoyed the park more.

i think this is my last season of kickball.

i've just not been that into it this year. this is mainly my fault or my state of mind. 10% is a pretty crappy experience with a teammate early in the season that put a sour taste in my mouth, and even though she doesn't do it anymore, the taste still lingers.
most is a combination of: not being in the boyfriend market, my general down and lame mood this summer, my not drinking (see reason 2), wanting to spend time with marathon, missing my sunday nights, and reason number 2. but i haven't put the effort in and so its hasn't paid off. i don't feel bonded to the team, but i haven't gone to any of their stuff either. its a cycle....
but thankfully nursery school boy had his bike tools and could help with my rear brakes clamped to the wheel making it quite hard to peddle thing. and it was nice to ride there and home, but need to find my lights

how do you spice gazpacho

love coney island, espcially when the crowds are low and the sun in getting low and the light is just awesome on the water. but super glad i had a long sleeve shirt on me.

next day.
went to al di l for dinner. super yummy. but super rich. the gnochi i had were fucking amazing. too rich to have very often but worth going back for next week.

goal for the week. take the ikea water taxi shuttle, preferably from lower manhattan to red hook.

so nice today and yet so much time inside.... at least i am hopfully going to ride my bike to kickball.

there is another day of us open qualifiers so i get to go again

but this time i do need to do reading on the train. and makes me can't decide about getting tickets for next week, although it would be pretty cool.

have i mentioned before the red hair dentist wife/office manager phenonmenon. i was amazed at the color of her hair today-i had just forgotten how fake it is.

oof skipping my coop shift and i already owe one. not a good start to the school year, but i am getting work done and once i'm on a roll its best to go with it.

fort totten

kinda cool. out at the end of the world in queens. kinda wish we had gone swimming, but marathon didn't bring his suit. we did explore an abandoned house/building and the peeling paint looked like ivy which was pretty awesome. the old fort reminded me of the concrete building/shelters out in the woods at the family park.

the lafa falafel at grille point was awesome, even if i could have done without the cultural experience of kew gardens. or maybe it was kew garden hills not sure.

so it seems my roommates don't do dishes. truth be told they don't seem to generate all that many dishes either, mainly coffee cups, but still. and if i'm getting annoyed you know its a thing...i miss my old roommies.

fyi marathon started pt yesterday. but he still doesn't have a copy of the police report-it seems one wasn't filed. so he can't get anyone to pay for his medical bills, as if you are hot by a car your insurance doesn't pay, its the other person's. there is a fund for hit and runs administered by the state, but it requires a police report. i thought it weird on the day of the accident when he told me he didn't get a police report.

is it just me or did the weather suck this summer

i'm going to blame it for some of my malaise. seems like it was always a thunderstorming. and now there is a tornado watch afoot.

i played the building. went to the installation art organ project of my nemsis david byrne. it was pretty cool. but one piece was not balanced by something to play on the opposite side of the room, and the in balance did not please me. i think watching it being played and listening and watching the stuff work was cooler than actually playing it. the space itself is pretty aawesome. chalk it up on my list of places i'd like to have a wedding or be at a cool event at.

my roommates have shitty taste in toilet paper. its not that i don't like the soft stuff, but the paper waste does bother me, and the rolls are so small they have about 4 pieces on them and they are done. the upside? i get to collect many more paper towel rolls. my stuff maybe more expensive but it lasts longer, so which is more expensive in the end?

there's always so much

not helped by the fact that my toilet is broken again. oof. so much water being wasted.

marathon went to a doctor finally. he has an mri on friday but the xrays show a fracture in his outer humeris, he got a referal for PT as well. hopefully surgery won't be required.

feel kinda shitty about a typical traveling with my parents encounter this morning. not sure what to do about it.

but the berkshires are pretty as always, and got to play some tennis...

bought a laminator, now isn't that exciting....

summer is still here dammit

when i went to drug stores on sat to try and get tiki torch fluid, most summer seasonal displays were gone or going (i had to get to several stores before i found one that had some in their bare bones display) replaced by back to school and halloween which is over two months and a distinctly different season away. i don't know about you, but i am still planning to get some serious beach time in this summer. i know they create revenue by hyping up things in the future but still*. summer items like sunscreen and tiki torch fluid are still needed. and i'm going to need to get a water gun soon, i think it may prove problematic. luckily i picked up a couple crap ones at the mccarren pool party yesterday.
* i used to work at a small toy store and the owner would put up hallooween stuff august 15th to boost an otherwise slow time. i thought it was stupid.

went to work today to print something out. that place is so aggravating in some ways. but trying not to dwell on it, that only makes things worse.

so much to say?

well it was a big week in some ways, although not so much in getting work done ways. and today i went back to sleep so and rather behind on my schedule. but i think i will have my credit card paid off this month, and i bought myself some bday presents.
and now the rain is preventing me from riding the bike home. oops.

finally got a chocolate dipped steve's key lime pie. the tart was yummy, wasn't so into the chocolate dip but felt like i got to check a box in doing so and i love the red hook waterfront these days.
feel like i have poorly mircomanaged getting marathon to an orthopedist, i know its not my responsibility, but his shoulder is clearly fucked up.
nice to see slipnslie buddy although there was some big stress that made part of the trip a big downer.
good to see hoya and her hubbie as well.
very fun and successful brbq sat night to officially ring in the 30s...

going up to the berkshires for a night tomorrow to see my parents.

other stuff to say and make snarky comments on but can't remember.

oof refuah schlemah to marathon

he got sideswiped by a car this morning. oof. waiting for update. he's conscious and bruised but overall ok. nothing broken but in pain.

on the original note. short weekend trip to boston was good if mosquito filled. definitely pick our own blueberries-0 mosquitoes-27
quick run down as i'm now distracted.

lunch at greasy diner-wasn't into it. cheap was why we went, we can all afford a couple more bucks.
craine beach which i absolutely love. not a beach day, took a nice walk down in a direction i don't usually go.
stopped at the farm afterwards, tried pick your own blueberries, i've never done the pick your own fruit thing before. if i do it again i will be covered head to toe, i got so many mosquito bites and gave up on the blueberries.
stop at place for lots of fried seafood, i had a beer.
qyick change and sit in traffic in line for bruce springsteen concert, but then huge downpour that made me glad to be in the car and delayed the start of the concert so we weren't late. just under a 3 hour show. played glory days-a personal fav. abck of the floor seats, but i wonder if bottom of lower level would have been easier to see. amazing how he can have the energy do always put on a show like that.
getting out of the parking lot and the 3 hours it took to get home made me wonder if it was really worth it. (it was)
yummy brunch with hoya and hubby at beggie planet and hoping a bus back to nyc-looked like a goregous day outside...

slipnslide buddy comes tomorrow. yeah!!!!!!!!! will be much fun!
