wow, that's totally not how russian debutant handbook's author's name is spelled

but apparently i'm too lazy to look it up.
missed in the last post. happy birthday ezt. and parents--you made it a year! and hopefully a weekend with all the grandparents.
didn't get my shit together to send him/then the present. but did make a donation today in his honor.
hmmm.
went to the met's new islamic galleries. didn't think it was as well done as the greece ones were. wasn't easy to find a coherent story or an answer to why so much turquoise colored blue in the pottery. the work that went into the large tapestries was overwhelming though.
fell asleep (due to being on the couch in a supine position and it being late) during the new winnie the pooh movie. winnie the pooh was not a huge part of my childhood, but i remember him being smarter than he appeared in the movie.
don't love wnyc's sunday evening lineup. at least i don't like on being in the 10pm slot. and generally don't like on being, although when it's a good show its really good. was going to buy a roku today but forgot that when i was near an electronics store. oops.
meh nothing more to say.

is anyone surprised by gary steoghart's (sp) favorite books?

looking at a list on flavorwire. haven't read most of em, but have read 2 of his book and heard of all his favorites. i'm not surprised they fit his writing style.

i always mix up david mitchell with other authors. one's who are much older. not read his stuff, and not read the stuff of the people i mix him up with.

last comment from this list-vendela vida looks nothing like i have always imagined her. this is going to send me to wikipedia...

bought and started becoming madame mao today. not sure how much fiction it is. all based on real events and people and uses lots of quotes says forward. but way it is written/punctuated makes it hard to tell what is a quote and who/when is talking. but should be interested. only other book on cultural revolution i read was balzac and little chinese seamstress. at the bookstore was in the chinese literature section. but i'm pretty sure this was written in english first. generally interesting arrangement this bookstore has. also was packed.

also on note of this book...the epigraph is very reminiscent of a line thatcher says in the iron lady (which was a totally disappointing movie, although meryl streep was great)

good day. hope to end it with crafting.

jeff mangum was pretty sweet last night. we had awesome tickets! the opening band was, as marathon says fun, and i love watching people play guitar.

today. good pilates class, lots of personal attention. walked to yummy brunch. walked to transit museum and made a couple purchases (one of which turned out lame and needs to be returned. bleh) saw good electricity exhibit at transit museum. walked to coop. stopped at swedish coffee shop for (bad) mocha and (yummy) cookie. and back home. now listening to a good episode of this american life.

my crafting plans were more formulated earlier. hopefully something will happen.

people who follow me around professionally

i have a couple of professional doppelgangers/nemesis out there. today i discovered another one- and not one i want to be associated with. i also wonder how much she charged for the ela portion of the standards project i did.

went to a new 'special' special friend today. i think he was my age. i'm pretty sure he trained with a friend of mine and under former special friends and special special friends of mine.

group interviews are annoying

i can't decide if the way this one was run was totally stupid or awesome, but it was annoying nonetheless. esp when it is unclear what you are interviewing for. summer camp science specialist at camp based down the street from me. brand new camp. but satellite of old organization. so using their model and trips etc...

so boring weekend all around. but got my flat fixed twice. once by marathon and then by a bike store since i got a flat. luckily flat happened outside bike store. unlucky bike store was closed so i had to take a car to come back there today.

no service, and also no sleep.

want to join in day of service, but didn't get act together. also have annoying 'interview' (it is actually an interview but is part of mass day of interviews for 16 year olds) at 2pm tomorrow for summer work. just got an email about it this morning.

slept horribly. crazy dream.

listened to magnetic fields last night. reminded of how much i like them. turns out they are coming to nyc but ticketmaster sucks ass.
‎13.50 in surcharges for a $35 concert ticket. didn't pearl jam fight this for us a decade ago? seriously ticketmaster. and if i go to the box office it will be $5 surcharge (i would be $53 for this concert if that was the ticket price, but likely will not b/c i am offended by the surcharge amount)

friend of mine has a piece in the nytimes today, magazine section i think. read it and there were many words i should have looked up. was about the role and point of the literary fiction novel today (as opposed to what the answer may have been 10 years ago). was somewhat interesting, what i understood. but more made me sad b/c i knew marathon would look at it and say what is this shit, what is he talking about, do you understand this, do you care.

more to say sort of. but also not. too cold to bike, but means will take much longer to get places and wait outside in cold...

angry birds breakthough

i know i am late to the game. but this game has me hooked....also in the late to the game-different birds have different abilities... i know like i said late to the game

loving any annoyed with ipad (not mine, work's and vehicle for angry birds...)
typed this up on ipad but am finding it easiest to get on line by just retyping-wasn't so much,

mainly to say first trip to coney island of 2012. was super nice. too short. seems to be doing to major work on the cyclone. if i didnt know better i'd say it looks like they are taking in down. coney island will certainly be different next summer. too soon to tell in what ways totally and if good or bad. (that sums it up. i'm getting overwhelmed and tired).

tomorrow: must get plane ticket to fl to see snowbird parents (not that there is any snow)
and finish report cards.

long but good tuesday

general to do:
update resume
talk to people about math degrees
get some stuff hemmed/sewn up

break was really nice. first day back was ok, chill. now doing afterschool on tues, which makes em super long and packed. good thing i have lava on tues. bad how much chocolate i ate before that.
but the excitement the kids had at the end was awesome. as was lava class. although would have liked a few more abs. i got put with the advanced kids which was cool.

1st celebrity game of the new year=success

overall it has been a lovely break.
waking up while it's dark out and going to work is going to be a harsh reality tomorrow.
but the past couple of days have been great. good food good friends. good movie. good game (although not the best round ever). good being outside.

we dragged 10 trees we found out on the street to the park to be mulched. we talked about going back out and dragging 6 or so more. but its too cold right now.
so hopefully i will felt.
